Meet Kimberly Zaph

Wellness Program Manager Kimberly Zaph will bring her personal energy and knowledge about health, wellness and family issues to WVU?s new Employee Wellness effort on campus.

She plans to build bridges among the many departments and units of the University—helping to spread the successful efforts WVU already has in place to a wider group of people while introducing new programs and resources.

Crucial to this effort will be the volunteer onsite wellness coordinators in various buildings, colleges, schools and units. Some of these coordinators have been helping improve employee wellness for a decade or more; others are newly recruited to the cause.

WVU President Mike Garrison recently introduced the program, saying, ?WVU ? with its hospital, health sciences center, and many health clinics—is devoted to health care and education for our citizens. But we need to do more for our employees? good health as well. We need to make it a goal to provide more opportunities for faculty and staff to achieve better physical fitness, improved mental health, and additional resources that will lead to longer, fuller lives.?

He added, ?We cannot be successful as an institution unless our people are healthy. We cannot lead West Virginia to a better health status unless we set a good example ourselves.?

Kimberly believes that as well. She has 15-plus years experience working in fitness and wellness settings, and is a frequent presenter at wellness conferences around the state and region. She can often be found ?walking the talk? with her husband, Ryan, and their two young children, Julia and Timothy, on Morgantown?s extensive trail system.

As an alumnus of WVU and a state native, she understands all too well the startling health statistics of this area ? the high rates of heart disease, diabetes and cancer ? and has some fantastic ideas for programs that she will be introducing to the University community.

Please visit this site often to acquaint yourself with these programs and resources.
